Today’s Thought
God’s mercy does more than change our standing with Him. Mercy CHANGES THE WAY I SEE PEOPLE.
Jesus had a way of seeing people others missed. Where some saw an interruption, Jesus saw a person. Where some saw a sinner, Jesus saw someone who needed grace. Where some saw a problem, Jesus saw someone worth stopping for.
That is one of the changes mercy begins making in us. We start asking God to help us see beyond labels, frustrations, appearances, and first impressions.
The person in front of you today is someone God sees and loves. Mercy begins when we slow down long enough to see them too.
Pray
“Jesus, open my eyes today. Help me see people the way you see them. Keep me from looking past someone because I am busy, frustrated, or distracted. Give me your compassion for the people you place right in front of me. AMEN.”
Today’s Mercy Step
Choose one ordinary place you will be today, the store, work, school, your neighborhood, or home. Before you enter, pray:
“Jesus, help me notice someone I might normally miss.”
Following Jesus by loving the people right in front of us…or next door,
