Remember the King

Pastor Mark ·

Psalm 103:8-12; Proverbs 14:29

Week 2: When It’s Personal Saturday

This Week’s Memory Verse

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 NIV84

Psalm

Psalm 103:8-12 NIV

“The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

Proverbs

Proverbs 14:29 NIV

“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.”

Today’s Thought

Psalm 103:8 says, “The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” This is what our King is like…this is who he is.

In Matthew 18, the servant’s tragedy is not that he never experienced mercy. He experienced extraordinary mercy. The tragedy is that he walked away from the king and treated another person as though the king’s mercy had changed nothing.

So when resentment starts taking over:

Remember the King.

Remember His compassion.

Remember His grace.

Remember His patience.

Remember how He has treated you.

Look to the cross and remember what He did.

Remember the King and remember who he is.

Pray

“Father, You are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love. Form Your character in me so that the mercy I receive from You becomes mercy I live toward others. Amen.”

Today’s Mercy Step

Choose one phrase from Psalm 103:8: compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, or abounding in love. Carry that phrase with you today and ask God to form that quality in you.
