A Debt You Could Never Pay
Psalm 32:1-5; Proverbs 16:6
Week 2: When It’s Personal Tuesday
This Week’s Memory Verse
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 NIV84
Psalm
Psalm 32:1-5 NIV
“Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin.”
Proverbs
Proverbs 16:6 NIV
“Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided.”
Today’s Thought
Romans 3:23 reminds us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. In Jesus’ parable, the servant’s debt is so enormous that repayment is impossible. His only hope is mercy.
That is the Gospel: You owe a debt you cannot pay, and God has provided what you could never provide.
Grace changes the way we stand before God. We do not stand as people who earned forgiveness. We stand as people who received it. That truth keeps us humble when someone else’s sin becomes personal.
Forgiveness does not make another person’s offense insignificant. It reminds us that our own relationship with God rests completely on mercy.
Pray
“Jesus, keep me aware of the grace I have received. Protect me from pride and help me live today as someone whose unpayable debt has been forgiven. Amen.”
Today’s Mercy Step
Write the words, “I have received mercy.” Put them somewhere you will see them today. Each time you notice them, thank Jesus for the forgiveness you could never earn.
