Remember What You’ve Been Forgiven

Pastor Mark ·

Psalm 103:8-12; Proverbs 28:13

Week 2: When It’s Personal Monday

This Week’s Memory Verse

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 NIV84

Psalm

Psalm 103:8-12 NIV

“The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

Proverbs

Proverbs 28:13 NIV

“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”

Today’s Thought

Jesus begins the parable in Matthew 18 with a servant who owes a debt he could never repay. The king has every right to demand payment, but instead he takes pity on the servant, cancels the debt, and lets him go.

That is where forgiveness begins for us too. It doesn’t begin with the person who hurt us, but with the mercy God has already shown us. Before we think about what someone else owes us, Jesus invites us to remember what we have been forgiven.

The Gospel reminds us that we owed a debt we could not pay, and God provided what we could never provide. We forgive each other because we have been forgiven.

Today, begin with gratitude. Remember the mercy you have received before you think about the mercy you may need to extend.

Pray

“Father, thank You for the mercy You have shown me. Help me remember how much I have been forgiven, and let Your mercy shape the way I respond to the people who have hurt me. Amen.”

Today’s Mercy Step

Take a few quiet minutes and name one way God has shown you mercy. Thank Him specifically for His forgiveness before you think about anyone you need to forgive.
